Sexual harassment at IT cell: Ramya says didn't get plaint

The complainant was hired as 'social media manager' at the Congress social media cell.

BENGALURU: A day after the Delhi police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a member of the Congress party’s IT cell, the India National Congress (INC), chairperson Social Media, Divya Spandana (Ramya) denied that she had been dismissive of the complaint.

Clarifying on the sexual harassment case, Ms. Spandana said, when asked about what action will be taken on the woman’s police complaint: “We have written to the ex worker asking for her complaint/version to take action. We don’t have a copy of the complaint other than what has been circulated. We haven’t received any official complaint from the ex worker.”

She also said, “If she has complained to the police then law will take its course.”

The complainant was hired as 'social media manager' at the Congress social media cell. She had accused her co-worker, Chirag Patnaik, working in the IT Cell in Delhi of allegedly sexually harassing her by invading her private space. Chirag Patnaik has been named as an accused in the complaint filed under Section 354A and section 509 of the Indian Penal Code, by North Avenue police in New Delhi.

When asked why no action had been taken against the man accused of harassment, when as the woman claimed, she had reported the matter to her, the Congress media cell chief replied, “The matter was never reported to me or to anyone on the team."
