Hyderabad: NRI business man killed at home by blows to face

Senior police officials ruled out transfers of officers on the case saying they were routine.

Hyderabad: NRI entrepreneur Chigurupati Jayaram was murdered in the house of one of the accused, in Jubilee Hills. His body was later dumped along with the car at Ithapuram near Nandigama in Andhra Pradesh, investigations have shown.

Reports had emerged that Jayaram’s niece Shikha Chowdary and her friend Rakesh Reddy were involved in the murder. But Andhra Pradesh police sources said while Rakesh’s role was evident, Shikha’s was not clear.

“Rakesh had reportedly lent Jayaram Rs 4 crore, which he was later asking him to return,” a source in the police said on condition of anonymity. “On January 29, Jayaram came to Hyderabad when Rakesh called him to his home in Jubilee Hills to ask for the money, but the former could only arrange '6 lakh. The next morning, Rakesh who was enraged with the NRI for not returning him the money, reportedly beat up Jayaram, following which he died,” sources said.

“The next day (January 31), his body was taken in a car and dumped on the roadside, to make it looks like an accident.”

As reports emerged that Jayaram was kidnapped from Shika’s house in Gachibowli, Cyberabad police investigated but found no clues. But they found that Jayaram had been to Jubilee Hills, reportedly to Rakesh’s house.

Reports have also emerged that an inspector working in the Hyderabad city police commissionerate had got a phone call from Rakesh, the accused, and had been transferred. But senior police officials ruled it out, saying transfers were routine and were purely based on administrative grounds.

A DSP-rank officer working in Rachakonda also faced the same allegations, but, senior officers told journalists that they did not receive any report from Andhra police on his connection with the accused in the Jayaram murder case.

Hyderabad police commissioner on Monday issued transfer orders to four inspector-rank officers. Posting of Mangalhat detective inspector B. Anuradha, posted as Falaknuma detective inspector, was cancelled. Nallakunta inspector S. Srinivasulu was attached to the main control room.

K. Muralidhar, who was posted at CCS, has been transferred and posted as Nallakunta SHO, and L. Ramulu, who was posted in the special branch, has now been posted as Mangalhat detective inspector.
