Unhappy, but I'm not for blame game: Soosapakiam

Several fishermen who had gone to the sea from Vizhinjam were missing.

Thiruvananthapuram: Latin Catholic Archbishop M. Soosapakiam has expressed concern over the way the rescue operation was handled in the wake of cyclone Ockhi. "The public felt that the administrative mechanism was ineffective in dealing with such a situation," he told reporters here on Sunday. "The government and the authorities were trying to hide some of their flaws," he said and added that he was not interested in the blame game. Several fishermen who had gone to the sea from Vizhinjam were missing. The fishermen of Vizhinjam protested against ministers Kadakampally Surendran and J. Mercykutty Amma when they visited Vizhinjam on Sunday.

The locals stopped the ministers and alleged that the search operations for the missing fishermen were not effective. Some shouted at the ministers saying that they need not come there now as they had not visited the place earlier. Mr Kadakampally Surendran came along with Archbishop Soosapakiam. The Latin Catholic Church had earlier alleged government's apathy in the rescue efforts and warned of an agitation if the situation did not improve.
