Chennai: The northeast monsoon which brought a few spells of showers couple of days back in the city, has moved to the southern parts of the state, resulting in a sunny day in the city, on Saturday.
Yet, the Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast that monsoon rains would return to the city after November 6, as a low pressure over Bay of Bengal is likely to develop.
"Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in isolated places over South Tamil Nadu and heavy rain is also likely to occur in isolated places over North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry," stated the RMC website.
In Chennai, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy with light to moderate rain or thundershower likely to occur in some areas.
Further, maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 and 24 degree Celsius, it noted.
A weatherman at RMC said, "Southern parts of the city would continue to receive heavy rainfall for two more days, while Chennai has to wait three more days to receive rain."
A city-based weather blogger said, "As always the case, while analysing weather patterns, it is imperative to look at probabilities of events rather than go with absolute numbers. For instance, 2015 saw onset of monsoon delayed by nearly eight days, compared to the traditional onset date of October 20, but we all know how the year (2015 floods) turned out to be."
"Likewise, the years 2003, 2004 and 2007 all saw onset of monsoon before October 20, but all of them experienced below average rainfall in Chennai. To even out these influences by individual years, it is necessary to see the overall probabilities based on long-term averages," the blogger noted.
Nungambakkam and the airport observatories recorded 31.3 and 31.2 degree Celsius respectively, on Saturday.
