Telangana: Colleges plan stir after dasara

Colleges managements stated that they were facing serious financial trouble and some of them were not in a position to pay monthly salaries.

Hyderabad: Post-graduate, degree and Intermediate colleges in the ten districts of the state are considering a proposal to go on strike after Dasara to protest the delay in release of fee reimbursement dues.

Colleges managements stated that they were facing serious financial trouble and some of them were not in a position to pay monthly salaries.

Mr Gouri Satish, joint secretary, Degree College Managements Association, stated that this problem was not limited to a few institutions, but close to 3,000 colleges across the state.

College managements had been waiting for six months hoping that government would clear the dues amounting to nearly Rs 2,200 crore for the 2015-16 and 2014-15 academic years in view of the assurance given during the Budget Session of the Assembly in March. “But there seems to be no end to our wait,” Mr Satish said.

The managements had discussed the temporary closure of colleges a few days earlier. “We will meet again to finalise our course of action,” Mr Satish stated.
