Madras high court notice on plea to halt Vishwaroopam 2

The company wanted the court to pass an injunction restraining Kamal Haasan from releasing the movie pending disposal of the suit.

Chennai: The Madras high court ordered notice to actor Kamal Haasan on a petition seeking direction to halt the release of his film Vishwaroopam-2. Justice C.V. Karthikeyan, before whom a petition filed by a film production company Pyramid Saimira Productions International came up for hearing on Friday, ordered notice to the actor.

In the civil suit filed against Kamal Hassan, the company sought for recovery of Rs 5.44 crore paid to Rajkamal Films International for production of a film - 'Marmayogi' in Tamil and Hindi languages. The company claimed that it entered into memorandum of understanding with Rajkamal Films on April 2, 2008, for production of 'Marmayogi' at an estimated budget of Rs 100 crore. Subsequently, payment to the tune of Rs 10.90 crore was issued to Rajkamal films. The payment was made for Kamal Haasan to act, direct and to write the story, screenplay and dialogue for the film.

The company wanted the court to pass an injunction restraining Kamal Haasan from releasing the movie pending disposal of the suit.

The company also sought direction from the court to return the amount paid to Rajkamal films.
