Ruling party, Opposition must work together: Jayalalithaa

She assured to give “due respectâ€and provide every opportunity to them to reflect people's problems on the floor of the House.

Chennai: Unfazed by strong Opposition numbers in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday asserted that her government would never chalk out strategies based on the “strength” of the Opposition. She, however, assured to give “due respect” and provide every opportunity to them to reflect people’s problems on the floor of the House.

Speaking in the Assembly after P Dhanapal and Pollachi Jayaraman were unanimously elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Ms Jayalalithaa said the ruling party and the Opposition have “greater role” in addressing the needs of the people since many parties do not have representation in the current Assembly.

Quoting C N Annadurai who said ruling party and Opposition are “two sides of the same coin” and that even if one side of the coin disintegrates it would lose its value, she asked the Opposition to behave responsibly in taking up the issues that concern the people of Tamil Nadu.
