NEET case adjourned, lakhs to write CET today, tomorrow

The apex court gave indications that it was no hurry to decide on the petitions filed by state governments against making NEET compulsory.

Bengaluru: With the Supreme Court adjourning the hearing on the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to medical courses to Thursday, the decks have been cleared for holding the two-day Common Entrance Test (CET) in the state on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, there is uncertainty whether the CET performance will really count for admissions, with the apex court yet to give its final ruling on a plea made by state governments including Karnataka, against making NEET mandatory from this year, and for continuation of the CET.

The CET is conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority, for admissions to professional courses including medical and engineering. As per the CET schedule, the biology and mathematics exams will be held on Wednesday and physics and chemistry on Thursday.

The apex court gave indications that it was no hurry to decide on the petitions filed by state governments against making NEET compulsory, with the first NEET phase over on May 1 and the second, a good two months away on July 24.
