Tamil Nadu Assembly secretary produces ruckus CD in Madras High court

In their petitions, Stalin and Palanivel Thiaga Rajan sought to declare the resolution passed by the TN Legislative assembly.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly secretary on Friday produced before the Madras high court, the CD in a sealed cover relating to the August 17 en-masse suspension 80 DMK MLAs from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for seven days.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G.Ramesh and Justice R.Mahadevan, before whom the CD was produced, directed the Registry to keep it in safe custody and posted to March 10, further hearing of the petitions filed by DMK Treasurer and the leader of the opposition M.K.Stalin and MLA Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, challenging the en-masse suspension of DMK MLAs including them by the assembly secretary on August 17.

In their petitions, Stalin and Palanivel Thiaga Rajan sought to declare the resolution passed by the TN Legislative assembly, suspending the members of the DMK party and all proceedings and action taken pursuant thereto as illegal and unconstitutional, besides to declare as unconstitutional Rule 121 of the TN Legislative Assembly Rules, which provides for the grave punishment of suspension without any opportunity of hearing to the member in question.
