Madras High Court grants advance bail for Kalairajan

Justice V.Bharathidasan granted anticipatory bail to Kalairajan subject to usual conditions.

Chennai: The Madras high court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to AIADMK South Chennai District secretary and former MLA V.P.Kalairajan, who apprehended arrest in connection with a case relating to allegedly threatening the then Chief Minister O.Paneerselvam.

Justice V.Bharathidasan granted anticipatory bail to Kalairajan subject to usual conditions.

AIADMK members had on February 5 elected party general secretary V.K.Sasikala as party legislature leader, a step to her elevation as the chief minister. Two days later, Paneerselvam revolted against her, alleging that she forced him to step down so she could take his place. Following this, Kalairajan, who owes allegiance to Sasikala said in an interview, “He (Paneerselvam) is planning to capture the party headquarters. If he lays a hand (on the headquarters), he will lose his arm…”. After the video went viral on social networking sites, N.Chellapandian, an AIADMK students’ unit wing functionary in Kancheepuram central district lodged a complaint with police, seeking action against Kalairajan. Based on the complaint, the Teynampet police registered a case against Kalairajan for various offences including criminal intimidation.
