Congress against gains to contractors: Digvijay Singh

Digvijay Singh on Friday said that the Chief Ministers of both the Telugu states have failed miserably in getting investments.

Hyderabad: Expressing surprise that a revenue surplus state like Telangana has been forced to take loans, T-Congress affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh on Friday said that Chief Ministers of both the Telugu states, K. Chandrasekhar Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu, have failed miserably in getting investments while there is no let up in their boasts. Speaking to the media at the Gandhi Bhavan here, Mr Singh lashed out at the TRS accusations at the Congress by saying that the main Opposition party was not against irrigation projects, it was only against increase of project estimates to benefit contractors.

“KCR’s propaganda that the Congress is against irrigation projects is false. We are against contractors benefiting at the expense of the state,” Mr Singh said. He demanded the TS government pay compensation to those farmers whose lands are acquired for projects as per the Land Act, 2013. Mr Singh said that he recently came to know that a case was registered against him in TS for his comments in the Twitter.

Condemning the racially motivated attack on two Telugus in the United States, Mr Singh said racism has increased after Donald Trump became President of the USA. He demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and foreign affairs minister Sushma Swaraj speak with the US government. Making it clear that he was opposed to forced religious conversions, Mr Singh said that madrasas should be modernised.

Meanwhile, in the TPCC coordination meeting chaired by Mr Singh, MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy demanded disciplinary action on party leaders who violated discipline. He said some senior party leaders were crossing the limits and revealed that he had urged AICC member A.K. Antony to take action against them.
