Categorisation of SCs soon, says M Venkaiah Naidu

He said that the BJP will not support 12 per cent reservation for Muslim minorities proposed by Telangana government.

Hyderabad: Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said that the BJP will not support 12 per cent reservation for Muslim minorities proposed by TS government or for any religion. He also hinted at the Centre taking up the issue of categorisation of SCs into A, B, C and D groups after Uttar Pradesh polls. Mr Venkaiah Naidu also accused the Kerala government of indulging in “state-sponsored terrorism” against the Sangh outfits.

“We will take up categorisation of SCs after UP polls. Whether we have to go by the Usha Mehra commission report or not will have to be considered,” he said. In an informal chat with media persons after a scheduled press conference, the Union minister said his party would not back reservations based on religion and courts too will not accept it.

When asked about Kapu reservations demand that has rocked AP, he said the Supreme Court will not accept reservations crossing the 50 per cent threshold. Mr Venkaiah Naidu accused the Congress and Left parties of trying to defame the NDA government and promoting “tensions, disaffection and unrest” on some campuses. He also expressed displeasure over a section of the media giving wide publicity to such unrest.

“To say that Kashmir needs azaadi, or Bastar needs azaadi, or glorifying Afzal Guru or Yakub Memon means supporting Balkanisation of India. Can such a challenge to national security be approved by political parties?” he asked. Stating that, “For the Congress, it’s politics of convenience — self and the ‘first family—’ above the party or nation,” Mr Venkaiah Naidu said that for the Left parties, weakening the system is an inherent part of their inflexible ideology.” “Unable to counter the growing popularity of Modi and the BJP, they are targeting the youth as they support Modi,” he said.
