Balapur cop succumbs to suicide bid

Hyderabad: An assistant sub-inspector working in Balapur police station who had set himself ablaze alleging died at the Apollo DRDO hospital on Monday.

On November 22, the ASI, K. Narsimha, 54, climbed a water tank near the Balapur police station and tried to immolate himself, alleging that he was targeted by his superiors and was being subjected to humiliation.

Police said Narsimha had a heated argument with two constables who had asked for the music system at a marriage to be shut off where he was present.

Subsequently, a constable lodged a complaint with the Balapur police against the ASI and his son for using objectionable language. Narsimha was transferred to Manchal police station. Upset with these developments, he attempted suicide.

Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat had visited the injured ASI in hospital and members of his family. The commissioner ordered an inquiry by LB Nagar DCP Sunpreet Singh and issued immediate orders transferring inspector V. Saidulu of the Balapur police and constable Dasarath till further notice.

A video of Narsimha undergoing treatment at the hospital went viral after his death. In it he says that he was being targeted by his immediate superiors. "I always performed duty with commitment and never did anything wrong. What has happened to me should never happen to other police personnel," ASI Narsimha says in the video.
