Karnataka: Six policemen suspended for Yamanur atrocity

Policemen allegedly entered houses during Saturday's Mahadayi bandh and assaulted women.

Hubballi: Facing a barrage of criticism over the shocking incidents in Yamanur village in Navalgund taluk where policemen allegedly entered houses during Saturday’s Mahadayi bandh and assaulted women, Dharwad superintendent of police Dharmender Kumar Meena suspended six of the policemen involved.

The suspended cops include two from Navalgund police station while the others are from Belagavi and Vijayapura stations and were deployed in Navalgund to augment security measures after the outbreak of violence in the town.

Meanwhile, the war of words over the assault continued with sources claiming it was an attack on a sub-inspector which made cops go on the offensive and beat up women. The women in Yamanur hit back, accusing policemen of launching false propaganda against them on the manhandling of the SI.
