In Adilabad, helmet must for entry for government staff

Police says the drive against helmetless drive has not flagged.

Adilabad: The district administration has imposed a ‘no helmet-no entry’ rule after the ‘no helmet-no petrol’ on government staff. Under this rule, government employees who come on two-wheelers without wearing helmets will not be allowed entry into their offices.

This is the first such test to ensure that government staff wears the helmet, so that the public could follow them. This rule is being tried out following the problems in implementing the ‘no helmet-no petrol’ rule.

Hundreds of posters on the ‘no helmet-no entry’ rule have been pasted on the walls of government offices, bus stands and public places here.

Collector M. Jagan Mohan, who is chairman of the District Road Safety Committee, had issued instructions to owners of petrol bunks not to provide fuel to two-wheeler riders who turn up without helmets. He warned that their licenses would be cancelled if they violated the rule.

He said the administration would set up CCTV cameras and deploy NCC cadets, forest staff and home guards to monitor the implementation of the no helmet-no petrol rule.

Though the rule itself was poorly implemented, there was an increase in the number of two-wheeler riders on wearing helmets due to the campaign by the administration.
