Four boys drown in water pit near Guntur

There was a pall of gloom in Swarnandhra Nagar with the death of the four boys.

Amaravati: Four boys drowned in a water pit near Swarnandhra Nagar on the outskirts of Guntur city on Saturday evening.

According to Nallapadu circle inspector K. Srinivasa Rao, a group of six boys studying Classes XI and X went to a water pit in the nearby agriculture fields for swimming.

The water pit was dry a few days ago but due to recent rains, the 10 feet pit was filled with water. So, the students planned to swim in the pit.

N. Ramakrishna, 15, Dakshina Murthy, 12, O. Ravi, 12, and S. Karthik, 14, entered into the pond but they were stuck in the mud and further slipped into the water. Two more boys, fearing about the tragedy returned to their colony, informed the parents and called locals for help.

The parents and locals rushed to the spot but in vain, as they found four boys drowned in the muddy water. They informed about the tragic incident to the Nallapadu police who rushed to the spot, pressed expert swimmers into action and fished out the four bodies.

There was a pall of gloom in Swarnandhra Nagar with the death of the four boys. The police shifted bodies to GGH for autopsy after conducting an inquest.
