Temperature boils in nine districts of Tamil Nadu, evaporation rampant

Chennai: Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Krishnagiri and Tiruvallur are recording temperatures above 102 degree Celsius an increase of four degrees when compared to the normal temperature. And the prevailing uncomfortable temperature will continue in nine districts of Tamil Nadu and there will be no respite for coastal districts, say weather office sources.

The minimum temperature in hill stations including Ooty, Kodaikanal and Valparai had also surged due to the peak summer season recording 20 to 24 degrees.

A weather bulletin issued by regional meterological centre, Chennai, said the maximum temperature is likely to be around 40 to 42 degree Celsius which is 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal in some parts of Vellore, Tiruchy, Perambalur , Karur and Madurai districts of interior Tamil Nadu for the next 24 hours.

For Chennai and its neighbourhood the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 37 and 28 deg Celsius. The weather office also forecasts possibility of heavy rains at isolated places over north interior Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka for next 48 hours.

On Wednesday, parts of Villupuram, Chengalpattu and Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram, Tindivanam, Krishnagiri and Sholavandan also received rains.

However the reservoirs across the state have started drying up due to increasing temperature and evaporation leaving water managers to go into a huddle.

“We are concerned over the evaporation and this is common every year. In Chennai, motor pumps are positioned to harvest the surface water with otherwise evaporates failing to serve any purpose,” said a Chennai metro water official source.
