Key accused in Kodanadu dacoity case interrogated by TN police

Investigation so far has revealed involvement of 11 persons, including the main conspirator Kanagaraj, former driver of Jayalalitha.

Coimbatore: Police on Wednesday questioned Sayan, a key accused in Kodanadu estate break-in and murder case, days after he was hospitalised in Coimbatore after being injured in a road accident in Kerala.

Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha interrogated Sayan alias Shyam at a private hospital in Coimbatore, where he has been undergoing treatment since April 29.

He was wanted in connection with the break-in and killing of a security guard at the Kodanadu estate bungalow of late Chief Minister J Jayalalitha.

Rambha said the health condition of Sayan was stable. However, considering that he may develop unnecessary stress, he was questioned only for a few minutes, the SP said.

Sayan, alleged accomplice of main conspirator Kanagaraj, was on Tuesday questioned by a Kerala police team in connection with the April 29 road mishap in which he was injured and his wife and daughter were killed near Thrissur.

Sayan, who was driving the car, had rammed the vehicle into a stationary truck. Kanagaraj was killed in a road accident in Salem on the same day.

Sayan had said to the police that the accident involving his family occurred as he was deprived of sleep in the previous days. Meanwhile, as part of the investigations into the case, the Kodanadu estate workers and villagers in Kotagiri were also being questioned, police said.

Investigation so far has revealed involvement of 11 persons, including the main conspirator Kanagaraj, former driver of Jayalalitha. Five persons have been arrested so far in connection with the case.

The gang members had planned the dacoity based on Kanagaraj's information that there was a huge amount of cash in the bungalow, police said. The Kodanadu estate figures in a disproportionate assets case involving jailed AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala and late Jayalalitha, among others.
