Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology students protest unfair' fee

Hundreds condemned the act of the college and staged a protest on Monday at the college campus gate.

HYDERABAD: After a few months of hunger protests staged by students of CBIT here, students and parents of Vasavi Engineering College held a protest against the college for not allowing the students to write exams without paying additional fees. Hundreds condemned the act of the college and staged a protest on Monday at the college campus gate. After an hour’s protest by the parents, even students came out from their classes and joined the agitation.

Huge number of students organised a rally on the premises of the college and staged a dharna in front of the college office. The parents and the students alleged that the college had been demanding the students of 2016-2017 batch to pay Rs 63,000 as extra fees and did not allow them to pay the normal exam fees and write the exam until they pay the extra fees. Telangana Parents’ Association(TPA) state president Nagati Narayana, secretary Pagadala Lakshmaiah, Vasavi Engineering College Parents’ Association president C. Srinadh, secretary Venkateswar Rao, leaders Padma Reddy, Venkataiah and SFI State secretary Tirupati participated in the protest.

At 3 p.m., the management invited the leaders of parents and held a discussion. After a half-an- hour argument, the management finally agreed to fulfill the demands. College president Pendekanti Rammohan Rao has declared that students from 2016-17 batch will be allowed to write the exam without the extra fee. Parents’ Association president of Vasavi Engineering College C. Sreenadh said, “My daughter got admission at Vasavi Engineering college in the 2016-2017 batch in convener quota and the seat was allotted for Rs 86,000.

Later, the government had hiked the fees to Rs 97,000 in November 2017 which also we paid. After that the management went to the court and got the permission to increase the fees to Rs 1.60 lakhs, based on the interim orders of the court, it is expecting us to pay the remaining amount of Rs 63,000 for the first and second year’’.
