Bengaluru: The state government has decided to made the Aadhaar card mandatory for BPL families which want to avail social benefits schemes and will introduce the Karnataka State Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Bill 2017 in the coming session of the legislature.

Law Minister T.B. Jayachandra  said since the Centre has made Aadhaar mandatory to avail all social security schemes, the state government too has decided to make Aadhaar compulsory.  To make public servants and public representatives more accountable, the government has decided to amend the asset declaration column. Henceforth, public servants and public representatives will have to file asset details of their dependents and kith and kin. Public representatives should file details of immovable properties like ornaments and furniture worth more than `10,000, the minister  added.

Another major decision of the cabinet is the introduction of ‘Asha Deepa’ scheme for SC/STs. To encourage private industries to hire SC/STs in  their firms, the government has decided to bear the ESI amount of SC/ST employees for one year. This move will reduce the burden of private entrepreneurs and encourage them to hire unemployed SC/ST  youth.

The government approved water projects for SCs and STs in border areas like Pavagada, Chellakere and Molakalmuru.  Another major project will  provide sites to homeless people in Sira taluks, he said.
