Rajahmundry: Prices of onion to be contained

He said that onions would be imported to East Godavari from Gujarat and Maharashtra in coming 10 days.

Kakinada: Joint collector A. Mallikarjuna asked wholesale dealers not to create artificial scarcity of onions and asked Civil Supplies officials to take steps for it. Reviewed onion prices on Friday with officials and wholesale dealers, he said because of a shortfall in production, traders have been selling onions at high prices. Officials should control the prices by coordinating with the dealers and traders. He said that onions would be imported to East Godavari from Gujarat and Maharashta in coming 10 days.

People should not get agitated for the prices. He said that the onions coming from Ahmednagar should be sold at Rs 38 and Rs 36 per kilo at Rajahmundry and Rs 40 and Rs 36 at Kakinada Rythu Bazaars. He said that the vegetable prices can go up in some seasons due to production fluctuation. The civil supplies authorities should give directions to vegetable farmers in Rythu Bazaars with huge quantity.
