He asked the state government not to accept the demand and called upon the people to defeat the designs of the centre.

Chennai: Left party leaders on Friday opposed NITI Aayog's recommendations to hand over 36 per cent of the government schools to private hands and said such a measure would deprive the students from oppressed communities from getting education.

The decision had been taken without consulting the state governments, he said and the state's rights on education which is a subject in the concurrent list were being snatched away. CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan said the educational opportunities of oppressed sections of people would be snatched away if the recommendations were implemented.
