Bengaluru: She's young, and clearly not above kicking up her heels for a #Kiki challenge! But Kannada reality show contestant and film actor, Nivedita Gowda became the first - not just to do the Kiki challenge in the city, but also the first to earn the ire of our conservative and cautious law-enforcers when she posted a four minute clip of herself, jumping out of a slow-moving car and gyrating, even more slowly for the camera, in step with Canadian rapper Drake’s song ‘In my feelings.’
A police complaint was registered against the actress for taking up the ‘Kiki challenge’ despite a police warning. Within hours of the complaint, the young woman removed the post from her social media accounts. and requested her followers not to imitate her.
She said that she had done it for fun and was not aware that it was dangerous. She added that the speed of her car was below 20 kmph when she took the challenge on a traffic-free road.
A pro Kannada organisation in the city on Thursday filed a complaint against her at the Ulsoor gate police station after she uploaded the video of her performing the Kiki challenge. The organization stated that what she did was too dangerous and requested the police to take action against her.
She had been preceded by the southern actor Pranitha Subhash, whose Kiki challenge video had started doing the rounds on social media in a video that she said was taken four days ago, long before the police warned people against taking up the challenge.
The city police had tweeted: “If you dance for #KikiChallenge on the roads, we’re sure of making you dance behind the bars!!”.
"We have nothing against social media fads as long as they don't become a public nuisance and put the lives of people at risk. Don't take up challenges on roads, which can harm you as well as others. Parents should sensitize their children about these dangers & keep a close watch," Dr G. Parameswhar, Deputy Chief Minister said.
Police advisory
Social media is being stormed by #KIKICHALLENGE, considered to be a high risk and a stunt of dancing alongside and hopping back into the moving vehicle. The youths are getting attracted and are falling prey to such illusive challenges.
This act is risky not only to the performer but also pose a danger to the fellow commuters, which is a clear violation of Traffic Rules. This violation can be considered as crime punishable by the law.
Hence, we the Bengaluru City Police, Law & Order and Traffic Police, appeal to the youth of Bengaluru City not to perform and encourage their loved ones into such deadly and dangerous acts.
