Bengaluru: Playing with her 7-year-old sister on a swing made out of a saree proved fatal for a nine-year-old girl in Kamakshipalya police limits on Saturday.
The saree got entangled around the neck of Anjali and choked her to death, the police said. Anjali was the daughter of Basvaraju, who is unemployed, and Gouramma, who works as a labourer. The family, which hails from Raichur, has been living in Sundakatte in Markandeshwara Nagar of Kamakshipaly for the last six years. Anjali is the eldest of their three daughters.
On Saturday, the parents went out to get medicines for Basavaraju, a physically challenged man, leaving Anjali and the other children at home. Anjali, who was playing on the swing, spun it hard, but got her neck caught in the saree. Her younger sister ran to her aunt’s house across road and told her relatives that Anjali was lying motionless. The neighbours rushed to the house, freed Anjali and took her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead, the police said.
