Marco Polo buses: Government notice to Tatas

KSRTC had purchased 149 buses from the company and used it for a short time.

Bengaluru: Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has said that the government had issued notice to Tata Motors for supplying inferior quality Marco Polo buses. He told here on Friday that a decision in this regard was taken by the KSRTC Board and it was decided to recover losses from the company.

KSRTC had purchased 149 buses from the company and used it for a short time. These buses started developing technical snags and proved uncomfortable for passengers. The KSRTC has now stopped plying Marco Polo buses, he said.

Meanwhile, senior IAS officer Umashankar had prepared a report on why those buses were purchased and who were behind it. Once he submits the report, the government would take action against those who were part of the deal to purchase these buses, he said.

Answering a question, Mr Reddy said that though the State government has increased tax on diesel, there was no proposal from KSRTC and BMTC to hike tariff. The financial situation of four transport corporations is better and can bear the diesel price hike, he added.
