Telangana Congress hits out at Narendra Modi on note ban

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on New Year's Eve on demonetisation was disappointing, full of rhetoric and low on substance.

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on New Year’s Eve on demonetisation was disappointing, “full of rhetoric and low on substance.”

Addressing a public meeting in Miryalguda on Sunday, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said people had a lot of expectations from the speech as it was delivered at the end of 50-day deadline that the Prime Minister himself had set.

“The people were expecting lifting of all restrictions on withdrawals and several major announcements. However, there was more of dialogue delivery and nothing concrete," he said.

Mr Reddy said crores of people who have been standing in long queues at banks and ATMs expected the Prime Minister to offer a solution.

“Instead of permitting people to withdraw their own hard-earned money from their bank accounts without any limitations, the Prime Minister tried to turn preacher. He did not speak a single word on black money nor did he give figures on how much black money has been unearthed through demonetisation,” the TPCC president said.
