Nothing wrong in shifting Megharikh mid-way: Home Minister Parameshwar

Bengaluru: A day after the transfer of high-profile IPS officer, Home Minister, Dr G. Parameshwar defended the transfer of former Bengaluru Police Commissioner N.S. Megharikh, saying that he didn’t see anything wrong in appointing a new person on New Year’s eve, instead of shifting him midway.

Speaking to reporters here, Dr Parameshwar said, “The practice of promoting senior people or transferring them mid-way is not new. Mr Megharikh has been promoted and he would be heading the Anti-Corruption Bureau which should not be seen as a downgraded post. In the eyes of the government, every post is equally important.”

In response to a question, Dr Parameshwar snapped that there was need for the state government to protect anyone by appointing Mr Megharikh to the Anti-Corruption Bureau .

Replying to a question, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president asserted that the party was aware of the challenges it will have to face in the Nanjangud by-elections. “We are not worried whether former minister, V. Sreenivasprasad joins Bharatiya Janata Party or whether he will be joining the party along with another Congress leader, Jayaprakash Hegde, from the coastal region. We have our strategy intact, we will go by our strategy to win the Nanjangud by-election,” he said.

Dr Parameshwar said that the state Pradesh Congress Committee will take a call on reconstituting the party office bearers list in the state. “We have to infuse new blood to gear up to face the 2018 Assembly elections with an intention to come back to power, therefore, carrying out changes in the party apparatus is the need of the hour. We will take a final decision once we are through with the Nanjangud by-election,” he explained.
