Cops continue to flout COVID rules

When this reporter refused to blow into breathalyser citing Covid, the police said it was alright if blown from a distance

HYDERABAD: Amidst heightened concerns over the spread of new Coronavirus variant Omicron in several countries, the Hyderabad police allegedly continue to flout the rules in following Covid appropriate behaviour.

Even as the health officials warn of the possibility of extreme health risks with the variant and the importance of safety precautions, the traffic police continue to force motorists to blow air into the breath analyser without any change of the disposable mouthpiece or nozzle. This reporter experienced the shocking practice of police conducting random drunken drive tests near the railway bridge at Ranigunj in the city late on Tuesday evening without following Covid safety norms. When this reporter refused to blow into the breathalyser citing the danger of spread of Covid, the police personnel said it was alright if blown “from a distance.”

Even after repeatedly refusing to go for the test without changing the nozzle, the police official insisted on it saying, “More than 10 people have gone through the test, what is your problem?”
