Bengaluru: Film producer's murder cracked, seven arrested

According to police, a missing complaint of Jain was lodged at the Vijayanagar police station on the night of November 27 by his son Rakesh.

Bengaluru: Two days after the murder of a 62-year-old film producer and businessman Ramesh Kumar Jain, the Kengeri police have arrested seven people, including two women.

The accused have been identified as Nazeer, his wife Shabeena Taj, daughter Heena, Islam Khan, Abdul Hashim, Syed Ahmed, and Mohammad Zuber. They had fatally strangulated Jain and dumped the body in a storm drain near Kengeri Railway Station on November 27.

Nazeer who had rented Jain's house in Deepanjali Nagar, has confessed to giving contract to Islam Khan, Abdul Hashim, Syed Ahmed, and Mohammad Zuber to kill Ramesh. The accused told police that they killed Jain over an issue related to house rent. They dumped the body in a drain to destroy the evidence.

According to police, a missing complaint of Jain was lodged at the Vijayanagar police station on the night of November 27 by his son Rakesh. In his complaint Rakesh stated that his father had left his house in RPC Layout to his another house in Deepanjali Nagar, which he had rented to Nazeer, to collect rent.

When Ramesh did not return home till night, Rakesh called up Nazeer to inquire about his father. But, Nazeer claimed that Ramesh had not turned up at his house. Rakesh then approached the police and lodged a missing complaint.

On November 29 at around 8 pm, a body was found in a storm drain and it was identified to be of Ramesh, based on the details of his driving licence.

The police took up the investigation and picked up Nazeer for questioning and confessed to his involvement in the murder and also named the other accused.

Nazeer, who runs a furniture shop, has been friends with Ramesh for 25 years and rented his house 10 years ago. However, later both Nazeer and Ramesh had a rift over house rent as the former was also irregular in paying rent, the police said.
