Educational institutions told to go cashless

Cash transactions will be allowed only in rare cases.

HYDERABAD: Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has instructed all educational institutions to encourage and ensure cashless transactions. In continuation of these directions, UGC has asked all central and state universities and national institutions to make transactions through online transfers, credit or debit cards, DDs (Demand Drafts) and cheques. Cash transactions will be allowed only in rare cases.

UGC Joint Secretary Dr Jitendra Kr. Tripathi said that the commission was following cashless method in disbursement of grants through Public Financial Management System (PFMS). Also, the disbursal of fellowships and scholarships is made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
