Bhimavaram railway station lacks amenities

Inadequate seating facility on the platforms irks passengers.

Rajahmundry: Rail passengers are complaining about poor amenities at Bhimavaram town railway station in West Godavari.

The passengers allege that though an air-conditioned waiting hall exists at the station, it remains closed all the time forcing passengers who booked tickets in A/C coaches to wait on the platform instead of in the air-conditioned hall.

Lack of adequate seating arrangement in the platforms also causes the passengers to stand for a long time, until their train arrives.

The passengers are also complaining about their inability to avail the newly launched ‘UTS on Mobile App’ to book platform tickets and officials admit about the non-functioning of the application.

They allege that no poster showing QR code is put up on display at the station to facilitate booking tickets online though such posters can be seen on display at other railway stations. They find fault with railway authorities at the station for failing to stop the trains exactly at the display boards indicating the position of coaches. This forces elderly people to run with their luggage to reach the coach.

The passengers also complain against the lack of a good canteen at the railway station providing snacks, food and hot and cold beverages.

A rail passenger M Kumara Swamy said, “I travel by Circar Express frequently to Chennai but I find no proper amenities at the station and also there is deficiency of service by the railway authorities. Passengers are suffering a lot. I appeal to the railway authorities to rectify the lapses immediately for the benefit of rail passengers.”

Some passengers even complain about autorickshaw drivers are charging heavily to take them to their destinations in case the passengers are not familiar with the places in the town.
