MP minister says SIMI encounter should be praised, but admits lapses

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met the family of slain constable Ramshankar Yadav.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh on Tuesday said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe how 8 SIMI terror accused escaped from Bhopal Central Jail after killing a security guard on Monday.

However, he added that there was no need for a separate investigation into the encounter in which the 8 SIMI terror accused were killed by police.

"Whenever terrorists are killed in an encounter, there are a few people in our country who raise doubts, especially Congressmen," Singh claimed.

Bhopal IG Yogesh Chaudhary however was reported as saying that the police was examining the videos which claimed to show that the encounter killing was fake.

Asked if CCTVs were working in the jail premises, MP Jail Minister Kusum Mehdele said she had no idea as she was ‘not present there’.

However, she added that the media should 'praise' the government for the encounter, while admitting that lapses had been committed because of which the accused escaped.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met the kith and kin of the slain constable Ramshankar Yadav.

Later, mortal remains of Yadav were taken for the last rites.

“He (Ramashankar Yadav) sacrificed his life fighting against terrorists. I came here to pay my last tributes to him,” Chouhan said.

Some political leaders cannot see the martyrdom of our jawans, he added.

“Some people are doing vote bank politics on this matter which is highly condemnable. One must refrain from doing this,” he said.

The CM announced that Rs 10 lakh compensation will be provided to the family of Yadav, as well as Rs 5 lakh for his daughter's marriage. He added that the colony will be renamed in Yadav's name.

The Opposition has demanded a probe into the killing of the terror accused, a demand which the ruling BJP in the state and at the centre has angrily rejected.
