Rains fill Andhra Pradesh reservoirs, 142 mm in Dachepally

Dachepally of Guntur district received the highest rainfall of 142 mm while Kavali of Nellore district witnessed 95 mm in the last 24 hours.

Vijayawada: Rains continued to lash AP on Wednesday, with all coastal and Rayalaseema districts receiving heavy downpour.

Dachepally of Guntur district received the highest rainfall of 142 mm while Kavali of Nellore district witnessed 95 mm in the last 24 hours. Singadam and Kota Bommali of Srikakulam district received 82.5 and 80 mm respectively. Many parts of Prakasam district also received heavy rainfall.

Heavy rains continued to lash Palnadu of Guntur district while traffic was hit at Dachepally with Naguleru overflowing onto the highway. The road link to Macherla was also affected with local streams flowing dangerously high. Fields in Dachepally, Gurajala mandals were inundated.

Tirumala and Tirupati towns were also affected by the rain. Many low lying areas in the temple town were inundated. Kundu River in Kadapa is in spate cutting the road link to four villages.

As areas upstream Prakasam barrage witnessed heavy rainfall, inflows increased on Wednesday. After 14 months, the barrage reached its full capacity.
Last June, officials had released 9 tmc ft of water into the sea, and since then, the barrage was facing shortage of water.

With water level reaching its full capacity officials released 14,500 cusecs released into the sea as the inflows continue. Various irrigation canals also released water to the tune of 7,792 cusecs.

Almost all districts, except Nellore and Anantapur, received substantial rainfall. Nellore received 0.2 mm rainfall while Anantapur got 1.4 mm.
Krishna and Guntur districts topped the list with 23.8 mm and 21.3 mm of rainfall respectively.

Of the total 670 mandals, 100 mandals did not receive any rainfall and 178 mandals got more than 10 mm of average rainfall.

The present rainfall has brought solace to farmers as it helps save standing crops in 36.92 lakh acres in Rayalaseema region.
