Numaish: Traders join hands to demand aid

Some of them offered to place donation boxes at their stalls to raise money.

Hyderabad: Exhibitors at the Numaish, particularly local traders, displayed exemplary support to those whose shops were gutted in Wednesday night’s fire.

Local traders arranged food for all the exhibitors and were helping in sifting through the remains for anything valuable that could be salvaged.

The shoppers at the exhibition demanded full payment of compensation to traders who lost their goods and demanded 15 days extension of the exhibition.

The exhibitors held an emergency meeting and resolved to extend support to those who had lost their goods.

Some of them offered to place donation boxes at their stalls to raise money.

They threatened that in case the Exhibition Society failed to compensate the affected traders, they would shut their stalls.

They held a demonstration at noon in front of the Exhibition Society office, demanding an assurance regarding compensation.

They jostled with security personnel when they were not allowed to enter the office.

Society office-bearers were not in a position to give them such an assurance and did not come out of the office.

Later, MIM leader and society member Yasar Arafat interacted with the exhibitors and assured them that the society would cooperate with them and provide compensation to those who lost their goods.
