AP Cabinet clears 5 pc quota for Kapus, sops

Vijayawada: The state Cabinet that met on Thursday approved a Bill giving 5 per cent sub-quota to Kapus in the 10 per cent reservation quota announced by the Centre to the Economically Backward upper castes.

The Bill will soon be introduced in the AP Assembly to make it an Act. It was in the last Cabinet meeting that the state government had decided on the Kapu sub-quota.

Another important decision taken by the Cabinet was approving lifting of police cases on those who participated in the protests demanding Special Category Status. This was earlier assured by the Chief Minister.

It was also decided to lift the police cases on those who had agitated for united Andhra Pradesh, Polavaram and Vamsadhara projects.

The Cabinet also decided to provide legal sanctity to the BC sub-plan that was introduced by the state government for the benefit of Backward Classes. In an apparent poll sop, the Cabinet decided to provide 150 units of free power per month to salons.

An integrated plan of '55,343 crore for the development of Amaravati capital city by CRDA was also approved. The Cabinet also allotted land to seven institutions in Amaravati.
