Chiefs of various organisations have a clear vision of goals in 2017.

M. Hari Narayanan, GVMC Commissioner:

Our priority is to provide core amenities in the true spirit to Vizagites and augmenting the existing infrastructure. We want to make the city the first cleanest in the Swachh Survekshan-2017 survey, being the the fifth cleanest city in the 2016 Survey. We want to sustain the momentum of various initiatives that have changed the face of Vizag city in the last one year and also ground a few Smart City projects, which will give a facelift to the infrastructure of the city. Last but not the least, we want to bring Gajuwaka, Malkapuram and other areas of the city into the underground sewage network fold. Beautifying the city will always be on our priority list.

Prof. g. Nageswara rao, Vice-Chancellor, Andhra University:

Our thrust areas will be bolstering the infrastructure of the university, including launching the renovated TLN Sabha Hall, adding blocks to various departments and constructing gymnasium, sports hostel, etc., repositioning Andhra University in national and world rankings by working on various factors that could improve it. We are also aiming to improve the financial prospects of the university by introducing more self-finance and evening courses and acquiring ‘Special Heritage Status’ tag by the UGC, which are likely to provide the university a total grant of '200 crore. We also want to set up innovation chapters and improve quality of teaching at affiliated colleges and also to extend all the amenities of the university to these colleges. Modern courses which can make the students ready for industry will be given importance.

Dr. C.V. Rao, OSD, Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS):

Our first priority in 2017 is to acquire a full-fledged autonomous status to VIMS in a phased manner by augmenting the infrastructure and bringing various super-specialities into the fold of the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva. We also aim to render quality health care services to the people of Visakhapatnam and other neighbouring areas by ensuring functioning of all the 15 operation theatres into running, providing 24x7 trauma care services at the VIMS to reach out to the road accident victims along the national highway. We want to set up a dialysis unit and improve blood storage facilities. We would provide obstetrics services like deliveries and maternity health services also and increase the capacity from the existing 100 to 500 in the next few months to accommodate more patients. Our aim is to provide quality medicare to all those needing it and at the crucial hour when it is most necessary.

O Naresh Kumar, CEO of Symbiosys Technologies & President of Vizag Development Council:

“As there is a lot of stress on going cashless and digital money transactions post demonetisation, I think the IT industry would really get a major thrust in Vizag, now being the IT hub of Andhra Pradesh. With a majority of the transactions being through banking system, there is a lot of scope for the data intelligence, cloud computing, data analysis. I see a major transformation in IT sector, especially in domestic sector, in 2017. But, what I really want to happen in the IT industry is development of technology that would ensure cyber security so that people can feel safe while making digital payment.”

G. Sambasiva Rao, President, AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation:

“The year 2017, I think would usher in massive development in tourism infrastructure projects. Vizag is the face of AP now. Many tourism projects have failed to take off in the past. Better tourism infrastructure will always boost business in any area. Besides, what I really want to see in the industry is all the stakeholders should come together to create a good ecosystem for business,”

B. Vijaya Kumar, Curator, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park:

“I wish the New Year would help us to take the amenities both for the zoo inmates and visitors to a new level with aid from the WB. I wish the Deer Park would commence in the New Year. Moreover, the zebras would be coming to the zoo in January. The zoo will really be a best place in the city to spend one’s time with family and friends in 2017. It will be a picnic spot.
