Kozhikode: Two cops booked for attack on transgenders

Jasmine is admitted at government general hospital (beach) and is likely to be discharged on Saturday.

Kozhikode: The town police on Friday registered a case against two police officers, who can be ‘identified,’ for attacking two transgenders in the wee hours of Thursday, mistaking them for ‘pickpockets.’ A sub-inspector of the Kasaba station and night patrolling team had caned the transgenders, Jasmine and Susmin, without any provocation. However, the SI’s name was not mentioned in the case file.

The duo were on their way home after participating in the ongoing Kalolsavam of Kerala Literacy Mission at Model Boys’ Higher Secondary School here, when the officials tortured them. The police registered a case under IPC 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).

Jasmine is admitted at government general hospital (beach) and is likely to be discharged on Saturday.

State Literacy Mission director Dr. P.S. Sreekala said that a written complaint was given to the chief minister and the DGP regarding the attack. The police officials who committed this crime should be punished, said Sreekala in a press release.
