Hyderabad: Facebook friendship turned deadly when a 26-year-old contract employee working at the provident fund office, was murdered by her boyfriend, when she tried to force him to marry her.

Janaki met Yashwanth Kumar, a year ago on Facebook and they had a relationship. Police said he killed her and packed her body in a gunny bag and dumped it in the Musi nala. Police recovered her decomposed body from the Musi nala in Gourelli village on Sunday and arrested Yashwanth Kumar.

Police said that J. Janaki, 26, a resident of Nalgonda X Roads, was working as a data entry operator at the Barkatpura PF office on contract. A year ago, while browsing Facebook, she found Yashwanth’s profile and sent him a friend request.

Yashwanth, who was working as a tax consultant at that time immediately accepted the request. They started chatting over Facebook and later had a relationship. As Yashwanth promised to marry her they had sex and continued that for six months.

“When she started asking him about marriage he started avoiding the topic. Recently he deactivated his Facebook account and started avoiding her but she insisted on marriage and warned him of a police complaint.” inspector G. Sattaiah said Yashwanth, who is into real estate business, hatched a plan to get rid of her and on May 17 called her to his room at Bandlaguda for discussing the marriage.

Janaki, who left home for office, went to his room. “During the discussion he killed her and packed the body in a gunny bag. Later, at night, he took the body on his scooter and dumped it in the Musi nala,” the inspector added.

Janaki’s family filed a missing complaint on May 20 suspecting Yashwanth. Based on call data records police traced Yashwanth and he admitted killing her.
Police found that Janaki last spoke to Yashwanth on her mobile a few hours before she was killed and later he switched off her phone to avoid being traced.
