On Saturday Teja Pawar, a handicraft stall owner was arrested by the police.

The budget hotel had not collected his details claiming that he was a known person. “We are requesting civic body to cancel its licence. “Apart from miscreant issues, we have Maoist and terrorist threats in state. So no rooms should be given without ID proof or passport,” said Biju K.R., Vizhinjam Circle Inspector. Police has been conducting special drives to verify whether the copies of identity proofs of guests are obtained by hotel and home stay owners. Officials say that several foreign guests stay at rented premises at Varkala and Kovalam despite their visas getting expired.
