Four schoolboys from Gummidipoondi go missing, traced in Ooty

Kavarapet police investigating the case learnt that one of the boys was carrying a mobile phone with him and tried to trace the location.

Chennai: Four schoolboys from Gummidipoondi, 50 km from Chennai, who went missing on Thursday were traced at a lodge in Ooty on Friday. The teenage boys, all students of Class 9 at a private school in Pancheti didn’t return home on Thursday evening after which their parents approached the police.

Kavarapet police investigating the case learnt that one of the boys was carrying a mobile phone with him and tried to trace the location. When the phone was switched on Friday morning, police traced their location to the hilly town. Tiruvallur district police coordinated with their counterparts in Nilgiris and a police team there secured the boys at a private lodge there, police sources said. Parents of the boys were informed and they set off to Ooty. Police sources said that the boys planned to visit Ooty for a long time and took off just like that. They were counseled and handed over to the parents on Saturday.
