Kurnool: Parents break limbs, dump baby near general hospital

14-day old abandoned as she was a girl: Official

Anantapur: A 14-day-old baby girl was found abandoned with her limbs broken near the general hospital in Kurnool two days ago.

The baby was rescued by locals who alerting hospital authorities and also the Women and Child Welfare department.

She was immediately shifted to the paediatric ward of the general hospital and handed over to Sishugruha, orphan children care unit of the ICDS department at C Camp centre after treatment. Sishugruha manager Ms Mehtaz, who has been caring for the child, said that it was a brutal act by the child’s parents, who not only abandoned her, but also broke her limbs, most probably because of her gender.

“The baby is responding to treatment in ICU and is now moving her hands and legs”, she said, and hoped that the baby would recover due to her tender age.
Kurnool SP Ake Ravikrishna, who visited Sishugruha and enquired about the girl’s condition, directed the III-Town police to register a case against the parents (still unknown). for trying to eliminate the child. Cops have been asked to find out the parents as the mother gave birth to the girl child in the labour ward of the general hospital 14 days ago.

“They have no right to kill the girl because of her gender. There are so many centres rescuing girl children,” he said.
