Kochi: High Court pulls up PC George for defaming actress

As soon as the matter came up before it, the court asked for the reasons for mentally torturing a woman subjected to a devilish attack.

Kochi: The High Court on Thursday lambasted P.C. George MLA for revealing the name of the woman actor, who was abducted and raped, and for making defamatory comments about her. George should not think that anything can be said against anyone, the court said.

As soon as the matter came up before it, the court asked for the reasons for mentally torturing a woman subjected to a devilish attack. "The era of Panchali and Draupadi is over. The era of male chauvinism is also over," the single bench said. Referring to the doubts raised by George saying how a woman actor subjected to the violent attack could attend a shooting the very next day, the court observed she must be a bold individual.

The court made the comments when the petition filed by George to quash the case charged against him by the police for revealing the name of the victim and making disparaging comments against her came up before it. George withdrew the petition following the comments made by the court.

The prosecution pointed out that the complaint filed by George mentioning the name and address of the woman actor is against the Supreme Court verdict and the law. His complaint is an offence, the counsel for the government stated.
