DMDK functionary hacked to death in broad daylight

The Korattur police rushed to the place and sent his body to the Kilpauk government hospital for post mortem.

Chennai: A 45-year-old DMDK functionary was hacked to death in public view at Srinivasanagar on Thursday morning. Previous enmity is suspected to be the cause behind the murder.

Pandian(45) was a resident of Kumaran Nagar in Padi and the vice president of the IT wing of the DMDK party. He lived with his wife Selvi(40) and his three sons. According to sources, Pandian had contested from the Villivakkam constituency in the 2016 Assembly elections.

Around 9 am on Thursday, Pandian was returning home after dropping his son in school at Anna Nagar. When he was near Srinivasa Nagar, a gang armed with weapons came on two-wheelers and waylaid him near the Tasmac shop.

“We heard a few people screaming and rushed to the spot, where we saw Pandian lying dead with his neck and head bruised severely with cuts all over. His left-hand fingers were severed,” said a resident of the area.

Eyewitnesses said, “A 4-member gang on two-wheelers intercepted Pandian and stabbed him with the knife. Pandian tried to run for his life, but he was caught by another two men on the opposite road. They stabbed him non-stop and hit him with cricket bats. When people started to gather, they fled,” said a police officer.

People from neighbouring houses and shops said that they alerted the police as soon as they saw. Pandian with grievous injuries. He died on the spot. The Korattur police rushed to the place and sent his body to the Kilpauk government hospital for post mortem.

The police also said Pandian used to be at daggers drawn with a real estate gang in the Padi locality. Additionally, Pandian’s wife Selvi informed that he had received a threat call on Wednesday night. Korattur police have registered the case and are trying to track down the mobile numbers of the suspects. The police have also collected the CCTV footages from the nearby shop.
