Bengaluru: 8 held for attention diversion thefts

Bengaluru: Nelamangala Town police have busted an inter-state gang and arrested eight of its members, involved in attention diversion and thefts outside banks in and around Nelamangala.

The police have recovered Rs 8 lakh in cash and vehicles they used to victimise people.

The accused have been identified as Japania, Arjun, Rakesh, Sunil, Rakesh, Vijay Kumar, Bhaskar and Samson, all residents of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh.

Police said the accused used to target bank customers. One of them would watch the movements of the person withdrawing cash and inform his gang members. The other accused would then divert the person's attention and rob his money.

Following several complaints, the police had formed a special team and carried out the arrests. While one accused was arrested in Nelamangala, others were picked up from Nellore.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang was involved in similar cases in Mumbai, Shirdi, Ballari and Pune.
