Bengaluru: Alert public helped the cops to catch a chain snatcher who was on the run in Kumaraswamy Layout police station limits on Thursday night.
The police said that the incident took place around 10:20 pm. Sandhya (name changed) was standing and talking to her friend on 50 ft road in K.S. Layout, when two bike borne men stopped near her.
The pillion rider got down and snatched her gold chain, weighing 30 grams, and escaped with his accomplice even before she could raise an alarm.
After hearing the woman’s scream, few men who were standing near the bakery rushed for her help and immediately alerted the police about the incident.
The public learnt that the suspects had fled towards Kashinagar direction and one of them had identified the suspect. They rushed towards Kashinagar and caught hold of him. At first, he denied any involvement, but later confessed and returned the gold chain. The public then handed him over to the police and they detained him. The police said that they have collected CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and are examining it to identify the accused.
