Ex-corporator arrested for communal riots, jailed

SIT officials arrested Ghouse from his house and sent him to judicial custody in Chanchalguda jail.

Hyderabad: Former corporator Mohammed Ghouse, who recently joined the Congress, was arrested by the SIT on Wednesday in connection with a communal riot case, which happened after a dispute about the Bhagyalakshmi temple.

Ghouse, who was MIM leader at the time of the incident, and some other leaders were booked by the Hyderabad police for inciting communal violence in the old city. SIT officials arrested Ghouse from his house and sent him to judicial custody in Chanchalguda jail. Meanwhile, the associates of Ghouse and MBT leaders alleged that the arrest was political vendetta, as Ghouse fell out with MIM recently. Ghouse was first elected as corporator from the Charminar division in 2002 and later from Shah Ali Banda in 2009. He was MIM deputy floor leader in GHMC.
