Bengaluru: In connection with the second PU Chemistry question paper leak, sleuths of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a former BJP corporator on Wednesday.
The arrested, identified as Gangabyraiah, is a former corporator of Bengaluru from Dr Rajkumar ward. Gangabyraiah is the 17 accused in the case who has been arrested.
According to the officials, Gangabyraiah had purchased the chemistry question paper from Kumarswamy alias Kiran for his grandson. The deal was done with the help of a LIC agent Manjunath, also one of the accused in the II PU question paper leak scam. Gangabyraiah, who was in touch with him, had bought the question paper for Rs 80,000.
The probe further revealed that the house of the former corporator was also used by the the accused to prepare students for the leaked chemistry question paper exam. The answer scripts for the question paper were prepared in his residence in Basaveshwaranagar, they said.
Police officials said that they are yet to ascertain whether Gangabyraiah was in contact with or knew Kumarswamy alias Kiran or Shivakumarswamy, who is supposed to be the kingpin in the scam. The call detail record, however, suggests that it was Manjunath who was in touch with Gangabyraiah as of now.
Last week, the Karnataka High Court had granted conditional bail to special officer to the Medical Education Minister Obalaraju (51), M.V. Rudrappa (50), a resident of Malleswaram, K.S. Ranganath (49), assistant engineer, PWD and a resident of Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Obalaraju (51), an Assistant Director in Small Savings and Pension Department, residing at Sriramapura, and B. Anil Kumar (46), a resident of Ullal Upanagar.
BJP leader was two times corporator
Senior BJP leader Gangabyraiah was a two-time corporator. During his last term he represented Dr. Rajkumar ward and also served as chairman of the administrative and reforms committee. As a chairman he had taken tough measures against to instill discipline among employees. He used to censure late comers and those resorting to proxy attendance.
Although BJP leaders Suresh Kumar and Ashok were his peers, he was content being a corporator. In the recent BBMP election he could not contest as the category was changed.
