Perumbavoor rape case: Team probing Jisha murder reconstituted

The other officials inducted to the probe team are DySPs M.J. Sojan, Sudarshan and Sasidharan.

Thiruvananthapuram: Ernakulam rural SP Yatish Chandra and three other officers involved in the investigation of the murder of Dalit law student Jisha in Perumbavur have been shifted from their posts as part of reconstituting the investigation team.

Crime Branch superintendent of police P.N. Unnirajan who replaces Mr Chandra and Kollam rural SP Ajeetha Beegum are part of the new team. Perumbavoor deputy superintendent of police P. Anilkumar, circle inspector S. Mohammed Riaz and Kuruppampadi circle inspector K S Rajesh have replaced by Ernakulam crime branch DySP V.K. Madhu, Baiju Poulose and Shamsuddeen, respectively.

The other officials inducted to the probe team are DySPs M.J. Sojan, Sudarshan and Sasidharan. Government sources maintained director general of police B. Sandhya who took over as ADGP-South zone had sought appointment of fresh members to the team and hence the officers she sought were posted under her in the local stream.

Meanwhile, a section of top police officers were learnt to have resented the decision to shift the existing team members. “The team had extracted crucial pieces of evidence such as DNA sample, hair, finger prints and blood marks of the culprit which helped it rule out several possibilities,” said a senior police official. “They were putting in all efforts to track the culprit.” However, the police team could not track the motive behind the murder yet, he conceded.
