Hyderabad: Sudanese held for contract marriage

The Sudan national had paid Rs 1 lakh to the bride's family for making a three-month contract marriage, said the police.

Hyderabad: A Sudanese national and three city residents including two women were arrested by the Cyberabad special operations team for their involvement in a contract marriage case at Mailardevpally on Monday.

The Sudan national had paid Rs 1 lakh to the bride’s family for making a three-month contract marriage, said the police. Acting on a tip off, the SOT (Shamshabad zone) inspected a house at Roshan Colony in Vattepally on Monday, where they found that a contract marriage was taking place.

The police found that a Sudan national, Wail Mohammed, 31, who works as an accountant at Omdurman city of Khartoum state in Sudan had come to India to marry a girl.

“Wail came to Hyderabad on November 14 on a visit visa and met marriage broker Habeeb Khan, 44, who took Rs 1 lakh to give to the bride’s family, and made an agreement. Two women, Shamem Sulthana, 40, and Shabana Begum, 37, who acted as mediators were made witnesses,” said Mailardevpally sub-inspector G Rajesh.

The passport of the Sudan national, two fake marriage agreements, one stamp pad, Rs 1.1 lakh cash and $300 were seized from the accused.
