Hyderabad: Techie held for cheating NRI

The victim filed a complaint with the police, and cops arrested the suspect after booking a case.

Hyderabad: A techie allegedly married an US-based NRI woman and swindled her. The suspect used a matrimonial website to attract the victim and married after lying about his financial status.

The suspect, Prashanth Paramkusham, 37, a software developer with Huetint Software Private Limited, was arrested by the cyber crime police on Saturday.

"He created a profile with false information on bharatmatrimony.com stating that he had worked in Wipro, Accenture, Microsoft and IBM, and has started his own firm. He claimed that he earns around Rs 30 to 40 lakh annually. The victim’s mother contacted him and after a while, the victim also came to Hyderabad from US to meet him. After the the wedding date was decided the suspect told the woman that all his cash was in fixed deposits and took Rs 4 lakh from her,” said an officer of cyber crime police station.

After the marriage the victim went back to the US and asked Prashanth to follow. He lied to her that he was admitted in hospital and asked her to sent '30 lakh to pay hospital bills.

The victim then checked his background and found about his lies. He had put up another advertisement on a matrimonial website seeking a new bride, the officer said. The victim filed a complaint with the police, and cops arrested the suspect after booking a case.
